What does a facial do?

What does a facial do? This is a common question and a good one, because there are so many facials that do different things. The more people understand what facials do, the more they know how facials can positively impact the look and health of your skin.

- EXFOLIATION

When you have a facial performed monthly, the exfoliation that occurs during the treatment sloughs away dead skin cells, removes excess sebum and extracts debris from clogged pores. Can you do these things at home? Of course, but not to the degree or depth that a professional skin care treatment can. This deeper exfoliation also boosts blood circulation and smooths the skin’s surface.

- SLOW THE AGING PROCESS

Facials also help to increase your body’s natural cell turnover process, which naturally slows as we age. You may have heard you should get a facial monthly. The reason for this is we're trying to bring the cell turnover rate back to, or keep it at the 30-day range.

Here's a quick guide to age and cell turnover rates:

  • 0-20: 14 to 21 days

  • 20s and 30s: about 28 days

  • 40s: slows to as few as 45 to 60 days

  • Over 50: 60 to 90 days

- PREVENT + CORRECT

Regular facials can prevent or correct various problems, with the end result of more beautiful skin. Here is a list of the most common skin problems and types of facials that address them:

  • Dark spots or hyperpigmentation - HydraFacial, Dermaplaning, Chemical Peels, Enzymes, LED

  • Boost collagen and elastin production - HydraFacial, Microcurrent, Chemical Peels, Dermaplaning, LED

  • Clean + decongest pores - HydraFacial, Chemical Peels, Ultrasonic, Enzymes, LED

  • Improve fine lines and wrinkles - HydraFacial, Chemical Peels, Microcurrent, LED

  • Treat blemishes - HydraFacial, Chemical Peels, Enzymes, LED

  • Lift and tone the skin - Microcurrent, Lymphatic Drainage, Ultrasonic

  • Hydration - HydraFacial, Chemical Peels, Enzymes

  • Deeply exfoliate - HydraFacial, Chemical Peels, Dermaplaning

I hope this gives you some more insight to what a facial does. If you have any questions about facials, send me a message. Or, make an appointment for a complimentary 30 minute consultation devoted to your skin's individual needs.
